Course Description:
This course will cover G3500B and G3600A+ ECM operation including initial start-up procedures. Service procedures and troubleshooting unique to the engines ECM control system will be covered. This will include: configuring the ECM parameters using Cat ET, Timing Calibration, Combustion Sensor calibration, Hydrax Actuator Calibration and maintenance. Both engines System Operation, Test and Adjust, and Troubleshooting Guides (fault code diagnostics, test procedures of sensors, ITSM (Integrated Temperature Sensor Module), and ICSM (Integrated Combustion Sensor Module) and engine ECM will be taught. Labs utilizing Cat ET service tool and other Cat software will be included. In addition, the course will look at available tooling and software for product support and the effective use of Caterpillar parts and service literature. The remainder of the class will be spent discussing the schematics associated with the ECM control systems and doing tests and adjustments on appropriate engines.

Pre-requisites: Students must have completed and Basic Electricity and Electronics course.

Students are required to bring a calculator and appropriate safety equipment—safety glasses, safety shoes, and work clothes.

Requirements: Technicians will wear company provided uniforms; bring safety glasses and work boots for lab exercises and be on time for each session.
